Here at The Standard, we’d never leave you in the dark, especially when the intel is this good.
We’re ready to reveal our collaboration with Jaime Hayon, a designer, artist, and friend of The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon. From February 5th-13th, join us for Hayon's fantastical Shadow Theatre exhibition at Bangkok Design Week 2022 at Chai Phatthanasilp Building on the 1st floor. But first, find out what he’s all about…
The Madrid native’s world-renowned installations and exhibitions like Mediterranean Digital Baroque, Mon Cirque, and The Tournament, put him at the forefront of a new wave that blurred the lines between art and design. Hayon drove a renaissance in finely crafted, intricate objects within the context of contemporary design culture. In 2001, he established Hayon Studio, which now has offices in Italy and Spain, where he continues to explore new and expressive artforms while maintaining a deep respect for artisan skills, finely crafted detail, and a passion for play.
Today, we’re here to celebrate our friend’s Shadow Theatre exhibition at Bangkok Design Week 2022. Much like us, Hayon sought to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Shadow Theatre is a recreation of a collection of paintings he has created throughout the years. With a series of works born of a distinct approach to creativity and design, the exhibition explores his unique vision of a circus fantasy. Art pieces are presented as an immersive theatre experience inspired by the age-old Thai theater of “Nang Talung”, a traditional style of shadow puppetry.
