How did you end up in NYC?
I followed my love of musical
theatre and dreams of being on a Broadway stage to a performing arts school. I
found a network of artists and creative friends who have inspired me every day
for 7.5 years. Most people from back home say NYC is my mothership.
What’s the inspiration for your song, “Rich Girl”?
I wrote the lyrics to “Rich Girl” about talking to every rich girl I know or haven’t met yet.
At my youngest, my dad would only let me listen to AC/DC or the Disney Classics cassette. My mom would insist I listen to “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang or the first Nelly album. I guess you could say these “mashups” are my grown-up collaging projects.
You seem to like mashups? What’s the deal?
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with making collages. With my 6 CD changer blaring whatever burned disc I had just curated, I would sit in my room for hours on the floor surrounded by hundreds of magazine clippings. What was your first concert?
Spice Girls.
You’ve been attending Standard Sounds shows for four years now. Do you have a favorite show/memory?
Elise Legrow’s first Sounds show changed my life. What an artist! I loved her set so much I saw her play again at Top of The Standard. It takes a strong and incredibly brave human to reimagine and execute the songs on an album like she did with Playing Chess. Girl Power!!
What can you expect from your Annie O show?
I’ll be joined by two incredibly talented musicians and friends, Ryan Nicholls and Devon Perry. Expect the unexpected from this unforgettable evening filled with tasty musical snacks.
